Community Lab and Capstone

What?

This year all Dunbar juniors will have a course entitled “Community Lab and Capstone”, which allows the student to explore career options and become familiar with the world of work. They will gain invaluable experiences that may give them an advantage in competing with others for college and jobs. They will also be able to contribute to their community positively and become designers of a better future, all while obtaining the community service hours they need to graduate.

Why?

-  Explore career options and become familiar with the world of work
-  Gain invaluable experiences that may give them an advantage in competing with others for college and jobs in the future while earning community service hours and a grade
-  Positively contribute to their community and become designers of a better future

The Capstone allows students to showcase the lessons learned from their community service experience. Through personal reflections, they will build self-awareness and analyze their communities' most valuable assets and pressing challenges. By cultivating a deeper understanding of themselves and their surroundings, students will outline how the Community Lab experience will shape their vision of the future. The following Afrofuturist competencies will be monitored and evaluated throughout the lifecycle of the capstone:

- Develop Self-Knowledge
- Collaborate with Others
- Reading, Writing, Thinking & Speaking Critically
- Design for the Future
